The exhortation from St Peter from today’s reading:
(1 Peter 5: 5b-14)
“Beloved, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another.”
The word humility has its root in the Latin word for “grounded” or “the earth.”
Humility does not mean low self-esteem or self-deprecation for we are children of God, a consecrated people chosen to advance His Kingdom. Our dignity is God-bestowed.
If the word humility is a reference to location, what then is true humility?
Is it not grounding in the truth of knowing where we are today, this moment and knowing the true state of our relationship with God?
We are sinners who have been given a great treasure, the grace of His mercy.
How will you respond to His grace today?
St Mark, the Evangelist, pray for us.
