Scripture Reading Reflection

Scriptural Reflection
In today’s reading, St Paul recounts the history of salvation; from the time God led His people out of Egypt to the reign of Saul, and then to the anointing of David as King. “I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will carry out my every wish.” Acts 13: 22, 1 Samuel 13:14
After the heart of God - the phrase is mysterious and filled with wonder and awe.
To follow after; to pursue after; to “be after” requires a putting of something or someone before oneself, to be led. We can only follow if there is clear sight of our chosen target. We can only pursue if there is an unwavering will to do so, as it may take time and we may face many obstacles. We can only remain in the “after” position if there are faithfulness and obedience to the God who is before us. The reward of faithfulness and obedience then is clear: the heart of God.
Lord, we pray for an obedient will and a faithful heart so as to one day have Your Heart.
Amen.
