Scripture Reading ReflectionV

Scripture Reflections “If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it." John 14:14

The Gospel reading today continues Our Lord’s parting instructions to us.

He taught us very specifically how to petition for our needs. His assurance here is definitive, yet often forgotten by our lack of trust in Him. The power behind all that we do is in the name of Jesus; our evangelization, our apostolate, our prayer, the Sacraments, the Church’s authority. How often do I forget that He does everything and anything good in me? How often do I allow His name to be used in vain? How often have I failed to praise His Holy Name?

Perhaps the next time we hear the name of Jesus being used in vain, we can internally complete it with a habit to petition Him: Jesus, have mercy. Jesus, increase my faith. Jesus, make me love You more.

Jesus, thank you for all your blessings!
