THURSDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 14:6-14

Jesus said to Thomas, " I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also; henceforth, you know Him and have seen Him."

Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does His works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son: if you ask anything in my name, I will do it."

"Lord show us the Father"

REFLECTION:

Jesus' mission is to take us to the Father. Is this not what we most desire? --to know the living God !!

Jesus makes it possible for each of us to personally know God as our Father. Jesus is totally united and inseparable from His Father when He said, " I am in the Father and the Father is in me." We see the perfect love of God in Jesus--He intensely cares for each and everyone of us, to the point of laying down His life for us upon the Cross. Would He have suffered His agony and death if He did not love us unconditionally?

Jesus promises us that God the Father will hear our prayers when we pray in His name. He taught us to pray with confidence the 'Our Father'. Throughout our lives, Jesus continues to reveal the Father to us. When we pray He delivers our prayers to the Father and the Father's words are spoken to us through the Holy Spirit.

I challenge us to daily hear our Beloved Father in our daily lives. Jesus speaks to us either thruough scripture, song, the homily at mass, the Eucharist or through a friend. Jesus has told us repeatedly, that everything He said and did came from the Father.

PRAYER:

Dearest Father, help me discover how much you care for me. Help me to embrace my true self as your beloved child and help me to fully become what you designed me to be. Amen

God Bless
