June 12, 2018 – Scripture Reading Reflection

Gospel Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus said to his disciples: "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."

Reflection

At Corpus Christi procession, I walked behind a young lad that was in crutches. He had lack of mobility in both his legs. He struggled down the steps and through the streets smiling all the way in prayer. He shone so brightly that day, that when my feet was getting sore I felt that I should try to at least keep up with him!

Sweet and gentle comfort

Melts the hardened heart

Ignites a flame of hope

Lights up a dark mood

Everyone has their own smile

So, let’s bless everyone with our smile; so that when they see us they see Jesus smiling back at them.
