A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark 6:7-13

Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick--no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them." So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. The Gospel of the Lord

REFLECTION: Jesus gave them authority over sickness and unclean spirits.

Our enemy is three fold--Satan, the world, and the flesh. Jesus showed us to use the world and flesh with self giving love and humility for the good of our neighbor. We do live in this world and we must work in this world.

Travelling light with no belongings frees us of greed and material wealth and allows us to grow with only the provision God has given us. This truly is the "Poverty of Spirit" . God wants us to be dependent on Him and Him alone--not us, not our priest, not our mentor, not our spouse--but just Him. Depend on God as a child depends on his father, for everything from food to protection to a place to lay your head. God has given us the fruits of His love--the beautiful gifts and talents that we possess--given to us as gifts, unconditionally given. We have the freedom to decide whether we take those gifts and use them as they were meant to be used.

Jesus has given us his own glory. He glorified his apostles by giving them the authority and power over the evil spirits and sickness. We were meant to minister to others and to intercede here on earth with heaven.

In Ephesians 1:3-14, God chose us to be holy and without blemish before Him. God's love is so personal and specific to you--and you alone, in spite of your idiosyncrasies and quirkiness. He created you for a specific reason and to share eternity with Him.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help us literally clean out our closets and unload this world from our lives. Help us make room for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and let us do all you have willed for us. Amen

Let us pray for our priests.

God Bless
