Friday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time July 27, 2018

A reading form the holy Gospel according to Matthew 13: 18-23

Jesus said to his disciples: "Hear the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the Kingdom without understanding it, and the Evil One comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understand it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold."

The Gospel of the Lord

REFLECTION: "who hears the word and understands it"

First we must listen--let God do the talking --God is ever ready to speak to each one of us and to give us understanding of his word. How can we hear God better? Do away with distractions and preoccupations with things that are never going to be more important than God. Many of us are so consumed with the world and material things that God's word, if spoken in a whisper, will never be heard. The seed that falls on the good soil (the receptive heart) will allow us to get closer to God. Find a quiet place to get away from the background noise when God is talking to us. Get rid of anxiety and worry --put these and all in the hands of God and then LISTEN to Him.

PRAYER: Dearest Lord, may PAPA members have a beautiful retreat. Let us leave our baggages, handies, jobs, rebellious kids, and dirty houses and let us allow the breath of the Holy Spirit in our souls. May our hearts be receptive to all you want to give us and may we grow under your sheltering arms. Amen

God Bless
