A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark 10:13-16
People were bringing children to Jesus that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Then he embraced the children and blessed them, placing his hands on them.
REFLECTION:
How much does mankind value children? Some families readily open their hearts to new life given by God and have an addition to the family every year or two. I know quite a few families blessed with 10 or more children. Personally, I grew up in one of those large families who would go out in public, only to be counted by strangers. We certainly had our share of attention when we filled up the station wagon and ventured out.
Society doesn’t always value life. I used to live in what is call a “bible belt” where most citizens lived by the bible, the holy Word of God. And yet, when I was carrying my third child, I was questioned as to why I would want to have more than two children. A general consensus seemed to say no more “accidents” after two. I was literally asked if I knew what I was doing when planning my children. I always thought, God gives us our children and he planned every single one.
Do we welcome children with the same tenderness and warmth as Jesus? He embraced them and gave them a blessing. “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Just think, God’s kingdom is filled with the hearts of children.
Divine Mercy Novena Sixth Day- "For the meek and humble souls and the souls of little children
Today bring to Me the meek and humble souls and the souls of little children, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as earthly Angels, who will keep vigil at My altars. I pour out upon them whole torrents of grace. Only the humble soul is capable of receiving My grace. I favor humble souls with My confidence."(
