FEAST OF ST LUKE, FRIDAY OCTOBER 18, 2019

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 10: 1-9

The Lord Jesus appointed seventy-two disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this household.' If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, 'The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.'"

REFLECTION: Go on your way

St Luke was one of the 72 disciples appointed by Jesus to go out. He was not one of the original 12 apostles. St Luke was a physician and coworker with Paul.

He wrote accurately the life of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke as well as the events following His Ascension in Acts. He tells us that God, in the person of Jesus, has actually come into the world as Savior and Redeemer.

He was born in Antioch, Turkey and died in Thiva, Greece March 84 AD. He is buried in the Abbey of Santa Giustina, Padua, Italy.

In today's Gospel, Jesus instructed disciples on how to carry out their ministry. Go on your way... They were to go out and serve with charity, selfless giving, in peace and in simplicity. They were to travel light and not be distracted and live a life of poverty. They were to be completely dependent on God.

PAPA's philosophy is to Pray, Serve and Bless. We serve in humility the priests with prayer, the oppressed, the less fortunate and our fellow PAPA family by prayer, with encouraging words and deeds. And we are totally dependent on the Holy Sprit to show us how. We pray for His help so we can go on our way.

God Bless
