MASS READINGS:

A reading from the first Letter of Saint John 4:19--5:4

Beloved, we love God because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from him: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God, and everyone who loves the Father loves also the one begotten by him. In this way we know that we love the children of God when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.

REFLECTION: "Whoever loves God must also love his brother."

God created love. God first loved us and He does not change. He is goodness, mercy and kindness. No matter what we do, if we call out to God in repentance, He will forgive our sins and bring us into His love.

However, He does stipulate that if you want to love Him, you must love your brother who was made in the image of God. God has given us His commandments to nurture this love for our brother. "Whoever loves God must also love his brother."

Before we think of ways people have not shown us love, or how we would have done things differently if we were them, let us think of the ways we have failed to love our neighbor. Pride and humility play an important part in love. Are we a blessing to others or are we a humblebraggart?

If we allow it, the Holy Spirit can and will transform us as we act under His influence. Remember, the fruits of the Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, and self control. (Galatians 5:22-23) Let us not be conceited, provoking one another, envious of one another. (Galatians 5:26). Be patient with one another, be kind to all, be generous, be faithful to that person. No need to talk about people behind their back.

Pray this daily. Prayer of humility

God Bless You
