God delivered all these commandments:"

REFLECTION

I most remember being scared of God growing up. After all, He spoke with thunder, mountains trembled, people could not see Him or they would die, He punished His people with deluge of water and destroyed cities. Perhaps it was this fear that kept me on the right path. However, love was not the relationship I had as my fear of a punishing God surpassed understanding His love and mercy.

The Ten Commandments were given to us and they are the basic conditions to live as God's people. The first three show us the fear and reverence we should have for God. Not fear that He will punish us but fear of offending Him.

Whatever may be our experience of meeting with God, read the Bible as a love story. The lover is Jesus, the incarnate Son of God. We are reminded over and over of His love, His covenant with each one of us individually.

Jesus Christ is the model: The model of being Christian. Jesus is the one whom people should see in us. To establish this intimate dialogue with God, we should strife for holiness. We should obey the other seven commandments as they teach us how to love.

This is emphasized in the Beatitudes, "Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God." (Matthew 5:8)

A pure heart is necessary to see God. His love can set us on fire in order to purify us.

God bless you.
