Your people, O LORD, they trample down, your inheritance they afflict.
Widow and stranger they slay, the fatherless they murder.

Understand, you senseless ones among the people; and, you fools, when will you be wise?

Shall he who shaped the ear not hear? or he who formed the eye not see?
Shall he who instructs nations not chastise, he who teaches men knowledge?

For the LORD will not cast off his people, nor abandon his inheritance;
But judgment shall again be with justice, and all the upright of heart shall follow it.

REFLECTION
The Lord will not abandon his people.
St Bonaventure, Doctor of the Church, wrote that Christ is both the way and the door; Christ is the staircase and the vehicle. We must suspend all the operations of the mind and transform the peak of our affections to God alone. The Holy Spirit inflames our innermost soul so that we can long for and surrender ourselves to Christ.(1)
Ask God’s graces to long for Him, to pray effectively, and ask God for the raging fire that carries the soul to God with intense fervor and glowing love. (1)
God is our strength. Long for Him. He will not abandon us. He will shower the repentant sinner with mercy The Holy Spirit is always at work.
Jesus has gained for us the dignity of being His brothers and sisters and the Divine Grace of calling His Father our Father.
