MONDAY OF THE ELEVENTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME JUNE 15, 2020

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 5:38-42

Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”

REFLECTION: "Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles."

When was the last time you went the extra mile for family or friends? When was the last time you went the extra mile for a priest? When was the last time you went the extra mile for God?

St John Vianney, PAPA patron saint, said, "The priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus. When you see a priest, think of our Lord Jesus Christ".

The hearts of priests will be pierced as was the Lord's heart. Priests leave themselves behind and step forward in Love for God. A priest bears all things, believes all things and hopes and endures all things for love of God.

It is nice to hear that vacation went well because our family member drove us to good vacation spots. It is nice to hear that grandma baby sat for a week. It is nice to hear that your friend invited a group together for a birthday celebration. You know them and they know you. It is nice and no problem to go that extra mile for someone you know.

"Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles."

Do we go that extra mile for a stranger? Whatever we do for a priest, we do for God. So pray, sacrifice, fast for the holiness of the priest. Empty our hearts of jealousy, hatred, boredom, resentment, sadness and worldly pleasures and fill them up with Christ.

As the priest intercedes for us, may we thank God for His faithful servants and may we intercede for them.. May we be availabe to help them, anytime they call, any time day or night.

God Bless You
