Saturday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds. "The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, 'Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?' He answered, 'An enemy has done this.' His slaves said to him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, "First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn."'"

Where is the Kingdom of heaven? Do you want to be a part of the Kingdom of heaven? It is possible, for heaven is within us; within our souls.

This parable says that his enemy sowed weeds into the field of good seed. Who are our enemies?

We know from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) that our enemies are the devil, the world and the flesh.

There is quite a bit of time that has to pass before harvest. How do we endure this time of growth with the weeds?

The logical answer to this question would be with patience. There will be many life experiences that will present temptations and opportunities to choose good or evil. What will be our focus? How will we make the good choice? How will we equip ourselves to keep growing in the Love of God for the Kingdom of heaven?

We know that the Bible is the Word of God and that every word can be planted into our field to help us grow in the love of God. There are other teachings we can look to also for help during this time.

*I found that a Thesis on The Practicing of Patience As the Virtue of "Love Enduring Evil" has been very helpful to me. It is written by our PAPA Spiritual Director, Father Michael. His writing takes you on a pilgrimage to study the possibility of Salvation by means of the Virtue of Patience. The journey through this Thesis and the conclusion are mind blowing. I discovered so much about the meaning of Love and evil and continue to learn every time I go back and consult its pages. With the help of a few of the Saints as tour guides, the teachings in this Thesis are profound and are useful for growth.

We will all have to endure the time of growth in this world with the good seeds and the weeds. It is wise to continue helping the good seed to take deeper root by filling our soul with the goodness of God and His Love. It is ultimately our choice.

This is our time to choose the Kingdom of heaven. Our time to pray for the grace to endure until harvest with patience and the Love of God. I pray that the Holy Spirit will shower us with His love in our times of trials and temptations. Here is the Prayer to the Holy Spirit by St. Augustine on our website. Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you with His love.
