Reading II 1 Jn 4:7-10
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.
REFLECTION
To my mother, I get it now.
I realize now how much you loved me, how you waited for all to eat before serving yourself, how you sewed all my dresses and coats when I was young, how you stayed up when we were sick, and how after working you came home to fix dinner, do the wash and clean the house. How hard you worked to send us to catholic schools, dropped us off for sporting events, and how you never stopped worrying about us. Many rosaries were prayed by you for your children, even after we left and started a family of our own. I never worried when you were around.Though you were an ordinary woman, you were my superhero.
Mary, our Mother, kissed boo-boos, cleaned house, sewed, mended, cooked and washed. She loved her son, Jesus. She held her Son tight in her arms, kissed His little hands, cuddled and lulled Him to sleep with a lullaby, "Durme, Durme", "Sleep my little one". She watched her Son grow, she nourished Him and encouraged Him. She saw His love pour out for us. She stood by.
Love is of God, and everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. God created our beautiful mothers, giving them hearts of gold, eyes to see our hurts, ears to hear our cries, lips to drop kisses all over us, hands to clean and hold us.
And on the cross He gave His Mother to us to be that perfect Mother.
"If you ever feel distressed during your day, call upon Our Lady. Just say this simple prayer, "Mary Mother of Jesus, please be a Mother to me now". I must admit: this prayer has never failed me." (St Mother Teresa)
Happy Mother's Day
