A Gospel according to Mk 6:7-13

Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two

and gave them authority over unclean spirits.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick

–no food, no sack, no money in their belts.

They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic.

He said to them,

“Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.

Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you,

leave there and shake the dust off your feet

in testimony against them.”

So they went off and preached repentance.

The Twelve drove out many demons,

and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

REFLECTION: "Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two."

Have you ever stopped to think why did Jesus send the disciples two by two?

Did you know that in PAPA, we pray in teams of two's?

We will assign at least two people to pray for one or more priest during a month. Jesus himself told us that “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in their midst” (Matthew 18:20).

Also, when we invite others to join our apostolate, we do it in teams of two. Our Lord himself promised us “Amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father” (Matthew 18:19). With confidence we believe that when two of us gather together with one heart and mind, with complete trust and pray in the Name of Jesus, our Heavenly Father will provide us whatever we need. (PAPA Handbook, page 9).

We read in the Old Testament: "Two are better than one: They get a good wage for their toil.

If the one falls, the other will help the fallen one. But woe to the solitary person! If that one should fall, there is no other to help." (Dt. 4:9-10)

There is a comfort in companionship. It is a wonderful thing to have friends in Christ that are aiming for the same goal: to make disciples for Jesus.
