A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 16: 12-15
Jesus said to his disciples: " I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you."
God's plan is beyond our understanding and we can't comprehend the divine working with our human mind. We are promised by Jesus, that the Holy Spirit will come and will reveal what is true, right and good. Since God is the author and source of life and of all that is good and right, we want to get closer to HIM. We want to be drawn to him in order to be free in truth and to listen to his word and grow in his knowledge. We want his great love, wisdom and plan for us.
We surrender to God's plan, believing that he knows what is best and will make his plans known to us in due time. The Holy Spirit will wait for the right time and for the right gift to move God's plan for us forward.
I am reminded of the writings of Lygon Stevens, mountain climber who succumbed to an avalanche. Here are some of her reflections on prayers and praise to God: "I am a work of art, signed by God. But He's not done; in fact, He has just begun.....I have on me the fingerprint of God. Never will there ever be another person like me....I have a job to do in this life that no other can do." Each person is a work of God, made in his image. We have been signed by God.
If we patiently wait, praying for the Holy Spirit to set us on fire, we will not be disappointed. God will use each of us, in His own time and way, to help others. God's plan is beyond our understanding. We surrender all, believing that one day we too will be told more, even if we can't bear it now.
Oh, Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul...I adore You. Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I should do....give me your orders. I promise to submit myself to all that you desire of me and to accept all that you permit to happen to me. Let me only know your will. (Secret of Sanctity, Cardinal Mercier) Amen
