A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 11:25-27
At that time Jesus exclaimed: "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him." The Gospel of the Lord.
REFLECTION: …" you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike"
Have you ever wanted to be a "fly in the wall" when the great saints prayed to God. Well, we here have the opportunity to listen in on Jesus conversing with his Father. Jesus is starting to find obstacles regarding the Kingdom of Heaven proclamation. There is a climate of mistrust and protest to the message from Jesus. Most noteworthy of these protests are the Scribes and the Pharisees--the learned ones.
Note how pious Jesus is to his Father. He begins with a prayer of gratitude. He calls him Father and Lord over heaven and earth. The revelation of the Father takes place through the Son. And the Son is revealed by only the Father who holds His Son close to His heart.
The Scribes and the Pharisees have rejected Jesus' preaching and the importance of the mighty deeds done. However, the childlike have accepted Jesus. And it is to these childlike that the Father has revealed His Son and the Son has revealed the Father to those who are open to receive and refuse to be arrogant.
Who are the childlike? The apostles were childlike, believing in Jesus with simplicity and humility. They trusted, depended on and followed Jesus. There was no pride nor coldness of heart, nor stubbornness to the teachings of Jesus. There was no sin nor wickedness.
PRAYER: Dearest Lord, we ask for the grace to fall madly in love with you . Let us share with trust, innocence and transparency personal knowledge of you as our Father and to see you in Jesus. Amen
God Bless all priests.
