Feasts of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael Archangels

Revelations 12:7-12ab

War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have salvation and power come, and the Kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death. Therefore, rejoice, you heavens, and you who dwell in them."

The Feast of St. Michael and the Archangels

What a powerful image the readings convey, “They conquered him by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

Today we celebrate God’s archangels and how God works through them. The Archangels are here to defend us from the evil one. St. Michael has been given authority over all souls. He is a most humble servant of God and has been given the power to protect us and help us in time of need. As evil continues to spread his lies to our communities so that what is ungodly is considered the right thing to do, we need to spend more time in prayer and promoting holy ideals with humility.

Let us spend some time each day praying to the Archangels, especially St. Michael, to protect us and defend us. Let us pray for the Archangels to protect our priests, because the leaders of the Church are the biggest threat to the evil one. As priests say mass, they bring the “Blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony” to us in the war against evil.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Divine Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
