Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

Gospel LK 9:28B-36

Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up a mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white." And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

REFLECTION

Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up a mountain to pray.

While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white."

Sunset at the Grand Canyon is an overwhelmingly, beautiful sight! Breathtaking and awesome, and the colors just before the sun sets are changing as the sun sinks behind the canyon cliffs. There are sounds of nature that can echo between the walls of rock; that are different than sounds heard in other places on earth. I was alert, awake and attentive to these sights and sounds and aware of how artistic God is with His Creation. Every nerve fiber in my body was attuned to the harmony of God’s Creation. While gazing at this event, I was mesmerized. I didn’t want to leave nor did I want the day to end.

Do you think Peter, James, and John were stupefied when they saw Jesus, the Son of God in His Glory? Were they able to take in everything with their senses? Do you think that they wanted to stay and gaze at His beauty forever?

“The Eucharist is the supreme proof of the love of Jesus. After this, there is nothing more but Heaven itself.” St. Peter Julian Eymard

Let us spend an hour or more with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament this week. Gaze at His beauty. Pray for all priests and people to see Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Pray the Prayer for Priests and St. Alphonsus’ prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in our PAPA Handbooks, page 34.

God bless you all!

While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.”
