WEDNESDAY OF THE THRITY-SECOND WEEK I ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 12, 2019 SAINT FRANCES XAVIER CABRINI M

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke 17:11-19

As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem, he traveled through Samaria and Galilee. As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him. They stood at a distance from him and raised their voice, saying, "Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!" And when he saw them, he said, "Go show yourselves to the priests." As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?" Then he said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has saved you."

REFLECTION: "Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?"

"Each one of you has received a special grace, so like good stewards responsible for all these different graces of God, put ourselves at the service of others. If you are a speaker, speak in words which seem to come from God; if you are a helper, help as though every action was done at God's orders; so that in everything God may receive the glory, through Jesus Christ, since to him alone belong all glory and power for ever and ever." (1 Peter 4:10-11)

Today is the memorial of St Frances Xavier Cabrini, the first US citizen to be canonized. She was not allowed to enter religious life because she was frail. She founded the Missionary SIsters of the Sacred Heart. They establised orphanages, hospitals, schools and cared for the sick, poor and abandoned.

In today's gospel, Our Lord gave the special gift of healing to the leprous outcasts but only one came back to thank Him. "Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?" Mother Cabrini had the special gift of empathy and compassion. She had zeal for sharing God's love. When one shares their gifts it is for the greater glory of God. The gift being shared helps to create a special relationship. The leper gave praise and worship to God in his thanksgiving. Mother Cabrini brought many souls to God.

God Bless
