Jesus said to his disciples: "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building; on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day, someone who is on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must not go down to get them, and likewise one in the field must not return to what was left behind. Remember the wife of Lot. Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it. I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left." They said to him in reply, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, "Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather."
REFLECTION: Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.
There was a period in my life that I had two recurring dreams--one was that we had just bought a house. It was a very big house. Everyday I would open the door to a new room, but every room I walked into was as filthy if not filthier than the one from the day before.
The other dream was that I would be in a great deal of anxiety having just found out that a term paper had not been completed and it was due that day or that a test was announced and I had attended few classes and was therefore clueless to the material.
There was terror and the sense of hopelessness.
I did not need a psychiatrist to help interpret my dreams. I was headed in the wrong direction in my life and if I did not change it would be too late to undo .
Reviewing my life, I thank God for His presence, for the many spiritual and wise priests I have been blessed to know. We are each responsible for our own salvation. But as in my dreams, sometimes some of us need a prodding, a reminder that God's graces and mercies are there for us. Perhaps my mother was praying for me. Perhaps the person I was rude or mean to said a prayer for me.
Will you be disappointed when the day of final judgment comes? Will you be fearful on that day? Will we be caught off guard? Do you long to see the face of God? Are our names written in heaven? Has a priest or a friend told you that you are embarking on a wrong path? Do you heed their words of caution or do you have a hardened heart and not accept God? Will we be prepared?
The choices we make now will be the ticket into heaven or hell.
God Bless
