A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 9:27-31
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out, "Son of David, have pity on us!" When he entered the house, the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I can do this?" "Yes, Lord," they said to him. Then he touched their eyes and said, "Let it be done for you according to your faith." And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this." But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.
REFLECTION: "As Jesus passed by..."
Day 6 Advent
Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would come and heal people, the deaf would hear, the blind would see, the lame would walk. (Isaiah 35)
In today's passage Jesus did just that which we are told He would do. But first He asked if they had faith. God knows all that we need, He knows all our prayers and He knows what we want.
As we journey with Mary we hear her saying, " May it be done to me according to your word".( Luke 1:38). As she travelled to visit Elizabeth, she most likely thought and prayed about what just happened with the Angel Gabriel's visit. We, too, need time to ponder what is happening in our lives as we continue to say "yes" no matter what the consequences. What did the blind men think of their circumstances? What did they do when Jesus passed them by? And Jesus answered, "Let it be done for you according to your faith."
Today the Church celebrates St Nicholas who was the inspiration for Santa Claus. St Nicholas threw a bag of gold through a window to help a poor father. It was a gift. Imagine the gift that Mary carries in her womb. The gift God gave to us and it is ours to have when we say "yes".
God Bless
