BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HEAR THE WORD OF GOD.....

“While he was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” (Luke 11: 27-28)

At a purely natural level, the conception of, God made Man, in the womb of one of his creatures, speaks not only of an incomprehensible level of humility on His part, but at the same time an incomprehensible singular privilege given to any woman before or since then.

Our Lord does not rebuke the woman or deny her beatitude for the singular privilege of his mother’s maternal gift of life and sustenance, but rather He highlights His mother as the ‘Primary Example’, for attentiveness to God’s word - as she had been, "who believed that there would be fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord" (Lk. 1:45) - which is infinitely more important at a supernatural level than a biological relationship to Jesus.

Elizabeth, her cousin, was the first to call her "mother of my Lord (the TheoTokus - mother of God)".  (Lk. 1: 43) who declared, "And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" (Lk 1:43).
