Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos was born in Bavaria in 1819. He joined the Redemptorists and was sent to the United States. He spent long times in the Confessional. He served in many parishes. During the Civil War he tended both sides.
He contracted Yellow Fever while caring for people in New Orleans. He died at the age of forty-eight in 1867.
