FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, MAY 18, 2025

When Judas had left them, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and God will glorify him at once.

My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.

This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

REFLECTION

"This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Well, that really is a though commandment, to love one another.

We can say it is easy to love those who love us. But let's be real, sometimes even those whom we love, or who love us get on our nerves. Misunderstandings happen and we respond in an unloving way towards others.

There is a phrase attributed to Dorothy Day that says: “I really only love God as much as I love the person I love the least.”

It really makes me pause and think on how I respond or how I feel towards others: the coworker that spreads rumors; the relative that cannot show love, only criticism; the friend that forgets to include us in a reunion, etc.

Women, we tend to ruminate and replay events in our heads and "what-ifs". These get disproportionally played in our heads when we experience negative interactions in our lives. Trying to live Jesus' commandment to love one another becomes a real challenge, a real act of the will.

But an act of the will is not enough. It is a start, but we need to orient ourselves towards the Heart of Jesus. So He can transform that first step into an act of love.

It is not easy, and many times I feel like a slug that is climbing up a wall. One that moves one inch up, and slides down two inches. I need Jesus to help me, otherwise by my own effort I won't make it.

June, the month of the Sacred Heart, is approaching. Let's pray the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and ask Him to help us love as He has asked us to. To be more like Him, and to do His will.

God bless y'all!
