Gospel John 11:1-45
... When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.
Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, only about two miles away. And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother.
When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him...
... Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise.”
Martha said to him, “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.”
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.” ...
REFLECTION
In other readings Jesus goes and meets the people that have passed away: The widow of Nain's son. Jairus' daughter. In this reading Martha goes and meets him. She later on sends word to Mary her sister to summon her, and Mary comes over right away.
Further down the Gospel Jesus asks Martha if she believes in Him. She responds affirmatively. This is a question that we should ask ourselves. Do I believe in God? Do I trust Him?
Pope Benedict comments on this passage as follows:
"Yes, O Lord! We also believe, notwithstanding our doubts and darkness; we believe in you because you have the words of eternal life. We want to believe in you, who give us a trustworthy hope of life beyond life, of authentic and full life in your Kingdom of light and peace."
Trusting in Him is one of the hardest things to do. Having faith and trust. Many times, especially during difficult times, I beseech Him like the poor man pleading for his possessed son: “I do believe, help my unbelief!” (Mk 9:24)
Let us pray to God to help us believe and trust in Him. To have true abandonment to His Holy Will. So we can become the holy people He created us to be.
God bless y'all!
