Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for thembecause they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples,“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;so ask the master of the harvestto send out laborers for his harvest.”
Then he summoned his Twelve disciplesand gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them outand to cure every disease and every illness.
Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus,“Go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons.Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”
REFLECTION:
Imagine if you heard of a doctor who healed everyone they saw or cured all disease and all illness. Droves of people would be calling for an appointment. The reason is that they see what the doctor can do and have complete trust, sharing the good news with others.
Isaiah prophesied that with the coming of the Lord, there would be no weeping; as soon as he hears our cries, he will answer. He will give you the bread and water you need. Wow, and the Holy Spirit will be guiding you with a clear voice, ”This is the way; walk in it”.
And blessed are we who wait for the Lord on these promises.
We see our God because He became human and allowed us to see how much He cares and loves us. We have in the Bible stories of Jesus, God made man, who worked for three years straight for us. We have heard God. We have felt God touching us, felt peace when He has pity and compassion for us. And, now, after showing us how we, too, must work and follow in His footsteps, He calls us to be His harvesters.
There are so many people who need to hear the message of love and compassion. We don’t have to go too far. Look around and you will see the need for harvesting.
Thought for the Day: We are part of a broken world. Where we are we can be that person who God calls to be a harvester. Call relatives you have lost contact with, offer to help out someone. How about that old high school friend, coworker, and priest who the good Lord put in your path?
Time to bring the good news to all. How utterly selfish if we kept Jesus all to ourselves and not share Him with others.
