Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast.”
REFLECTION
During this time of Lent, which is considered a time of fasting and self-denial, we see the disciples of John questioning Our Lord in today's Gospel. Jesus points out that there is a time for fasting and a time for feasting. Let us make this time of self-denial during the Lent count. We should have specific things that we resolve to do for each of the three pillars of Lent: prayers, fasting, and almsgiving.
Let us take these 40 days of Lent seriously so that at the coming of Easter we may be rededicated disciples of Jesus Christ.
