A reading according to the holy Gospel according to Matthew 9:14-15
The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”
REFLECTION: The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast
When we fast, we turn away from ourselves and open our hearts to God. When we want more, we must empty ourselves to be able to receive. Imagine making room for intimacy with God.
This Friday as we fast from meat may our sacrifice help us renounce ourselves and receive the graces needed today.
Perhaps today we can skip a meal as well as abstain from meat.
