Gospel Matthew 6:19-23

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. “The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

REFLECTION:

The gospel is thought-provoking in that it makes me really think about where my treasure is.

It's not in my hands, I'm actually allergic to jewelry.

Is it hidden in my name?

Given that my middle name literally means gold and silver.

I heard that, initially, my name was supposed to be Number 3,

so it's through God's grace that I was given a proper name.

He had a hand in the treasure hidden in my name.

He had a hand in all my success.

Picked me up from all my failures.

He gave me a helping hand throughout my whole life.

Perhaps all this time—

since I can't find my treasure anywhere,

since I don’t even have the slightest idea where it could be—

it could only be in His hands.

There is where I will find my heart:

in the safest place, with the One who treasures it the most.
