"For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be."
REFLECTION
Forty two years ago my life changed. At a time that we were "busy" accumulating worldly treasures, the demands on our comfort-loving and lazy living changed. What now mattered was not if we had this or that but were we able to be good parents and serve God.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.
But store up treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be." (Matthew 6 19-21)
Of course, we had duties, obligations, expenses but they no longer were our primary focus. However, they needed to be done, but they no longer were our treasures. Our daughter, Laura, was the reason to wake up, find happiness, not mind sleepless nights. Our habits were now concentrated on being good, cheerful when it was preferable to be grumpy, to do without, to be tired and unable to rest, and to not hear "thank you" or be appreciated.
Our treasure is a gift from God and that is where our hearts are. Together we work to help each other reach heaven.
