Gospel John 14:1-6

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Do not let your hearts be troubled.

You have faith in God; have faith also in me.

In my Father's house there are many dwelling places.

If there were not,

would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come back again and take you to myself,

so that where I am you also may be.

Where I am going you know the way."

Thomas said to him,

"Master, we do not know where you are going;

how can we know the way?"

Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through me."

REFLECTION:

A moment in history that transcends time: The moment His heart was pierced on Calvary, torn apart to make room for us. Since His heart had the capacity to save the world, could that be the "many dwelling places" He speaks of?

"Do not let your hearts be troubled." Easier said than done, especially when you're highly anxious, vulnerable, in pain, and encounter people who dehumanize you just to save some cold, hard cash.

It's a humbling experience to find yourself broken on the floor, unable to move. Your muscles unwilling to respond. Your face pressed against the cold tile. The world goes silent as you can only hear the echo of your own breathing. How can you not let your heart be troubled? You don't have the strength to express the frustration. Your mind reels, then it stops as it runs out of juice.

And the truth hit me like a thunderbolt as I felt electric currents run from my neck to my fingertips. My body doesn't respond to me; I'm not its master. I have no control over my life, and He is in control, who is "the way and the truth and the life."
