Jesus said to the crowds:“To what shall I compare this generation? It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another,‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance,we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said,‘He is possessed by a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said,‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is vindicated by her works.”
REFLECTION
"But wisdom is vindicated by her works.”
Children are self absorbed. As parents we show them love, care and concern for one another. Yet some grow up preoccupied with themselves, their needs and doubt God. Logic and reason, gifts from their creator, their Father, are now used to disprove the one who created them.
Our Father who loves us so much invites us over and over to come to Him. As a good parent, He does not give up! At times He might appear foolish as He pursues us with sweet tenderness.
Jesus is the embodiment of Wisdom and needs no justification. He urges us to listen to Him. Priests are sent to us to share the Good News so that we can be saved. But due to personal experiences and history very few of us listen to God without filtering the information. Many don’t like the message so they discredit the messenger. Oh, the priests who are persecuted for not floundering in their preaching are many!!
Jesus is the Wisdom of God. Yet, He too was rejected. Many did not allow that needed wisdom to live within them.
Thought of the Day: Am I prejudiced when I learn about God? Am I or my family members stiff necked, hard hearted refusing to yield to the tugging love of God? Pray today for the freedom that opens us to follow Jesus more closely. Pray with thanksgiving that our prayers will be answered.
Thank a priest who has brought the Word of God in a good homily or by his example to you.
