Reading 1

REFLECTION

"Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky,

and so make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered all over the earth."

Weddings are most beautiful when God is present. The bride and groom beaming at each other, in joy and peace, join their love with God. God is present in that union and will be present when they are broken hearted, when mourning, happy in their work in raising a family and providing. God delights in a relationship with us. All that we have He has given us.

This humble dependence in God should be sustaining. Caution when we start drifting away from God. Some opportunities look great but they may distract us from receiving God's best. Other times opportunities are knocking but it is not the right time. Yet many forge ahead without asking God for His perfect guidance.

In Genesis, the people thought of only themselves, did not seek God's counsel. "Let's build a city and a high tower for ourselves, make a name for ourselves". Where was God in their plans?

In Psalm 127:1-2, we are reminded "Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain". In the Gospel, Jesus says, "What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?"

When we do something for the Church, do we ask God if that is what He wants? When we volunteer, start an apostolate, a ministry do we pray if it is God's will? Without Him on board, many of our efforts will be in vain, our projects might fail or we can have a mediocre existence. Put faith in what the Lord wants.

Surrender, trust and then wait.

His stirrings will bring you peace.

But most of all find gratitude in every aspect of our life. Not because He will be good to us but because He is good to us.

It was you who saved us, Lord:

we will praise your name without ceasing.

(Psalm 43)

God Bless You
