A reading of the holy Gospel according to Mk 8:34–9:1

Jesus summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the Gospel will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? What could one give in exchange for his life? Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this faithless and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.” He also said to them, “Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see that the Kingdom of God has come in power.”

REFLECTION

What could one give in exchange for his life?

When thinking and speaking of Christ, faith, wisdom, virtue, truth, peace, redemption hope and love become a part of my thoughts. It is impossible for me not to think of Jesus in such a manner. And what does that mean? It means when I hear my brother or sister knocking at the door, I hear Christ saying, "Open the door, my love".

We receive to our capacity the abundant graces of God. But is it to hoard these gifts or to share? Faith binds me with a sacred and powerful bond with my neighbor. And with what God has given and in prayer, I need to show my gratitude by sharing with others.

Always standing before God, do I give enough thanks, enough mercy, enough remorse for my sins? Do I give enough to others?

There are so many ways available to show God how much He is loved and what we can do for His children, our brothers and sisters.

Catholic Charities,

PAPA Joe donations,

Praying for life,

Helping the Missionaries of Charity,

Feeding the homeless,

Feeding the poor,

Sharing faith through CCE classes,

Praying for those who ask for prayers,

Praying for priests,

Calling one another,

Sharing a smile,

Writing a note of encouragement

and so many more opportunities in our daily life.

Thought for the Day:

May the dear sweet Lord pour out His blessings on all who share His love.

God Bless You
