A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn,

while the world rejoices;

you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.

When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;

but when she has given birth to a child,

she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy

that a child has been born into the world.

So you also are now in anguish.

But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice,

and no one will take your joy away from you.

On that day you will not question me about anything.

Amen, amen, I say to you,

whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you."

REFLECTION

But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice,

and no one will take your joy away from you.

Graduation brings mixed emotions. We are happy we have that diploma, the new job and expectant but unknown horizons await us. Yet, we are sad that the friends we hung around with are not taking the same journey as we. They will go to different cities, jobs, obligations and commitments. We promise always that we will keep in touch. Either a relationship happens or it doesn't. It can't be forced. So we leave knowing that we hold beautiful memories , laughter at silly things (you had to be there to enjoy the joke) and promising that you will keep in touch. Being human is just that, being human. Life goes on for us.

Some view Jesus the same way as they view acquaintances. But... one thing I know for sure .... He will never leave us, no matter how far we travel, stray. NEVER!! We have been travelling with John's Gospel, very different from the three synoptic gospels. For me, it is a love story, with its tears, fears, betrayals, joy...We have been reading the discourses in the upper room of the passion, death and resurrection, glory of God's only Son, who comes to reveal His Father to us, and then returns in glory to the Father.

We are to wait until He comes again. We are to endure the evils of the present life as we look forward to the future blessings of the coming life of joy. No one will take away the joy that awaits us, so we continue on this journey. Ask God for His divine love so we can transmit it to others, for peace which surpasses all understanding.

Our prayers are not distant or formal but the cry of children speaking to a loving Father.

God Bless You
