FRIDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER, APRIL 24, 2026

Gospel

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his Flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my Flesh is true food, and my Blood is true drink. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.” These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

REFLECTION

Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.

The Eucharist enriches our life. And now Jesus reveals the great mystery of the Holy Eucharist. Once faith takes over, we are able to see the presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the infinite love God has for us.

We believe that as the bread and wine consecrated by Christ at the Last Supper were converted into his Body and his Blood, which were immediately offered for us on the Cross, thus also the bread and wine consecrated by the priest are converted into the Body and Blood of Christ, sitting gloriously in heaven; and we believe that the mysterious presence of Our Lord, under the appearance of those elements, which continue appearing to our senses in the same fashion as before, is a true, real and substantial presence.

Graces flow through prayer and the reception of the Sacraments. Faith is not always easy to understand. We want to understand. What Jesus was teaching was certainly a mystery. Jesus offers His life. He wants to live in us, sustain us and give us life. Trust though it is difficult and mysterious.

God Bless You
