FRIDAY OF THE THIRTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 1, 2022

A reading of the holy Gospel according to Mt 9:9-13

As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” He heard this and said, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

REFLECTION

Go and learn the meaning of the words, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice”

Our many sins, faults, and failings should keep us always aware of our need for help, trust, humility, and patience: Most definitely mercy. For His mercy mends the broken bridge between the Creator and the creature.

Unfortunately, some do not believe they are sinners nor that their pain can be relieved by the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Some don’t see the need for God and many will say “No” when God calls them to follow Him.

God seeks us out and uses us in caring for lost souls. When He calls us—Stop, Look and See— accept the invitation to sit and dine with the Lord, the source of mercy.

Pray for ourselves and the people God puts in our path. Every soul who meets us and every soul we meet is an intentional encounter With God.

0ne does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Psalm 119).

God Bless You
