Jesus told his disciples a parable. "Consider the fig tree and all the other trees. When their buds burst open, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near; in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away."
REFLECTION
"but my words will not pass away."
Jesus taught in parables: in short and often fictional stories with a moral or spiritual lesson. In today’s reading we are called to be vigilant, discerning and watchful for the signs of the Kingdom, using the fig tree as the storyline.
When we cook we follow a recipe to know when and how to add ingredients, adjust temperature as needed or stir or whisk more vigorously. We adjust accordingly what needs to be done in order not to ruin the meal.
We use the GPS to not get lost. We know by the signs to turn right or left, north or south, east or west.
When you garden and notice buds on your trees you know that summer is near, time to water more and fertilize or that plants when droopy and sad need watering.
In all we do we are aware of our surroundings and respond accordingly. We trust the recipe, the GPS and what the plants are telling us …but sometimes it still fails. The meal does not look at all like the picture, we may arrive at a wrong destination and our best efforts don’t seem to help our plants.
Remember that the Word of God never fails: Never collapses, never readjusts, never changes course. Let Him fill you with His graces, that we may bear fruit.
Live in faith that God's plan has a divine rhythm and will ultimately be fulfilled. Stay the course.
In God’s Will and timing, The Holy Spirit will come upon us when signs and things have taken place. We will remember His Words … refuse to become anxious. Let Christ grow in our souls. Become all the Holy Spirit moves your soul to be.
