A reading of the holy Gospel according to LK 21:29-33
Jesus told his disciples a parable.“Consider the fig tree and all the other trees. When their buds burst open, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near;in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near.Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass awayuntil all these things have taken place.Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
REFLECTION
but my words will not pass away.
In the digital age, it's easy to forget the joy of writing and receiving letters. Old fashioned mail is fun and a wonderful way to stay in touch. The art of writing letters has died since text messaging took over. The words in a loved ones letter are cherished treasures. Not only do you have their handwriting but it is the gift that lets you "hear their words" and keeps them forever in your presence when read. They are a keepsake that literally last forever. .
Research also suggests writing letters to your nearest and dearest to share your love and show your appreciation can help you to feel happier and more satisfied.
Saints Catherine of Siena, Ignatius of Loyola, and Teresa of Avila were all prolific letter writers. Padre Pio would write to his friends words of advice. We can learn so much from them.
What Jesus says will literally last forever. His recorded words are in the Holy Bible. Those words are directed to every man and woman who walk this earth--the words of God through His Son. His words are divine and therefore are not limited by human constraints of time and place. His words are of the same value now as they were in the past, and can be depended on of never changing.
The words of Jesus are delightful and memorable; we get to know Jesus by His words and His words come alive by His deeds. Traveling to the Holy Land has helped to hear His words better as now we see where He lived, ate, cried, was tortured, crucified and resurrected. How do we unlock the written words of Christ?
Do you understand the written word of God? As with the Ethiopian who answered St Philip by saying, "How can I, unless some one guides me?" PAPA gives us a golden opportunity to understand and better comprehend what is written in the bible. In FACE ZBS (the face of Jesus studied via zoomed bible study) we find Jesus coming out to meet us. Our love will deepen as we gain knowledge of Jesus. And our guide is a theologian who brings His life to life.
Jesus has said all to us and it is up to us to pick up those personal words of Jesus and allow them to grow in us. His words are relevant now just as they were 2000+ years ago. Read over and over, heed His words, His admonitions, His advice for our time on earth is very short and just as quickly as we lived we will quickly pass away. We go on living each day without thinking much how we are living or why we do things. We might even get accustomed to our sins and the lack of guidance in our lives. We allow ourselves to lower our standards, forgetting that the standards set by Jesus were and are our guiding posts.
