Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’” Then he said to them,“But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.” He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone. He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
REFLECTION
“The Christ of God.”
Ecclesiastes states "There is an appointed time for everything." We do not quite understand God's ways, but Ecclesiastes assures us that God is working even when we don't see the full picture.
Jesus spent thirty-three years on earth--there were days of joy such as His Birth, miracle healings, raising of Lazarus and the widow's son, the Wedding Feast of Cana, healing of the sick and the possessed, human fellowship at the home of his friends, Mary, Martha and Lazarus, The Transfiguration, and the Holy Spirit singing over you as we hear Him in our hearts.
Yet, shortly after Peter recognizes Jesus as "the Christ of God", Jesus tells the disciples that He must suffer, be rejected, be killed and then rise on the third day. How will this unfold? We know that He will suffer before glory, the Cross before the Resurrection.
Believe in God no matter what season we find ourselves. Joy and Happiness or grief and sorrow. Trust in Him in all we go through and all we do.
"The Son of Man came to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. "
