Gospel

Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.” He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.

He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

REFLECTION

“But who do you say that I am?”

At the end of the day it is good to ask this question of God. “Who do you say that I am?"

I am made in the image of God but do I act like His child? Do my actions reflect that He is my Father? Would people see Him in me? Do I bring Jesus, His Son to others?

What kind of person am I ? A gossip, a cheat, a liar, a “yes person”, judgmental, self righteous, argumentative? What if He answers me as to whom I really am. Would I be proud? Happy? Ashamed? Embarrassed? How we see ourselves might not be at all how others see us, but most importantly how does my Father see me.

Each day in the morning, pick one negative aspect of yourself and ask for the grace to work on the corresponding virtue to strife for that day. We will be surprised as to how easy and quickly we can contain our bad behavior if we are doing it all to please God.

God bless you.
