Gospel

Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

REFLECTION

many others who provided for them out of their resources.

I went to a Catholic school, Ursuline Academy, kindergarten through senior year. The nuns wore black habits which I am sure was a sacrifice for them in a non air conditioned building what with Laredo temperatures above 100 degrees. Our school motto was Serviam, Latin for “I will serve”. I grew up always looking for ways to be a part of the solution.

Jesus journeyed from one town to another by foot preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. With Him travelled some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities. The most grateful people I have met are those to whom great things have been done to them and for them. They will remind all of what the good Lord has done for them .

The women mentioned in the Gospel left their old lives behind and were examples of how a life can truly change. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Chuza, Susanna to name a few, spent time with Jesus and Mary. Some supplied food, clothing, spread the good news and propagated the faith. As we consider the generosity and fidelity of these women may we examine our lives.

They loved and in doing so their deeds cannot be erased but are now a part of eternity. Words and sweet phrases may try to describe how they felt but wounds accepted, deeds embraced and hearts poured out for others will be remembered best.

How can we serve the Lord? Serve the poor, feed the hungry, care for the sick, share talents, work on a food and clothing drive, drive others to doctor's visits or to church are some examples. If we are to serve Him, we must follow Him and be where He is because that is where we will meet Him.

How can you serve Him in this apostolate (PAPA) of praying for priests to have the zeal for the Lord and our mission to make disciples? Work hand in hand not just by praying but by doing. We need writers for the daily reflections. We have all written letters to friends and families, we have conversed with God and we know how to lift up others and care for their needs. Can we put our thoughts into words ? One can be a candidate to be an officer of PAPA, we can go and meet priests and tell them about PAPA and how we can pray for them, ask our family, friends, parishioners to become a PAPA missionary. There are so many ways to use our resources.

Are we ready to journey with Jesus? It should be a lot of fun and a great way to do good.

God Bless You
