MEMORIAL OF SAINT ALOYSIUS GONZAGA, RELIGIOUS, JUNE 21, 2022

A Gospel according to Mt 7:6, 12-14

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine,

lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.

“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you.

This is the Law and the Prophets.

“Enter through the narrow gate;

for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction,

and those who enter through it are many.

How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life.

And those who find it are few.”

REFLECTION

"For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction,

and those who enter through it are many."

Hell is a real place. Jesus warns us about it. And many saints have had visions of it to warn us of its existence.

St. John Bosco, a 19th century Italian Catholic priest who used to care for the orphans in his city, was one of these saints.

We can read about these visions in the book "The Forty Dreams of St. John Bosco." They are a great teaching tool, and fill us with hope in any age.

In the dream titled "The Road to Hell" we read:

The road is sloping downward. As we were continuing on our way, flanked by banks of roses and other flowers, I became aware that the Oratory boys and very many others whom I did not know were following me. Somehow I found myself in their midst. As I was looking at them, I noticed now one, now another fall to the ground and instantly be dragged by an unseen force toward a frightful drop, distantly visible, which sloped into a furnace. "What makes these boys fall?" I asked my companion. "The proud have hidden a net for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare: they have laid for me a stumbling-block by the wayside." (Psalms 139: 6)
"Take a closer look," he replied.
I did. Traps were everywhere, some close to the ground, others at eye level, but all well concealed. Unaware of their danger, many boys got caught, and they tripped, they would sprawl to the ground, legs in the air. Then, when they managed to get back on their feet, they would run headlong down the road toward the abyss. Some got trapped by the head, others by the neck, hand, arms, legs, or sides, and were pulled down instantly. The ground traps, fine as spiders' webs and hardly visible, seemed very flimsy and harmless; yet, to my surprise, every boy they snared fell to the ground...

God doesn't want us to go to hell. He is helping us every day and in everyway to be with Him.

But our human nature takes the best of us, and we sin. And in God's infinite mercy, He provides us with the sacrament of reconciliation, with confession, so we can show our repentance, ask for forgiveness, and be in communion with Him again.

Let us pray the PAPA Prayer for Priests for all our confessors. For those men that bring us back to Jesus, so we can receive Him in Holy Communion again.

God bless y'all!
