R. (8a and 9a) Here am I Lord; I come to do your will.
I have waited, waited for the LORD, and he stooped toward me.
And he put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God
.R.Here am I Lord; I come to do your will.
Sacrifice or oblation you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me.
Burnt offerings or sin-offerings you sought not; then said I, "Behold I come."
R. Here am I Lord; I come to do your will.
I announced your justice in the vast assembly;
I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know
.R. Here am I Lord; I come to do your will.
Your justice I kept not hid within my heart; your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken of; I have made no secret of your kindness and your truth in the vast assembly.
R. Here am I Lord; I come to do your will.
REFLECTION
How are certain Saints chosen to become Doctors of the Church?
There are 35 Doctors of the Catholic Church. Thirty-one are men and four are women. There are three characteristics considered when determining whether a Saint can be titled, Doctor of the Church. They must be: very holy, highly respected in knowledge and teaching, and formally acknowledged to be a Doctor by the Church.
St. Thomas Aquinas is called a "Common Doctor" because he was able to keep the "unity of truth" in his teachings. Aquinas wrote the Suma Theologica which is a collection that summarizes the main teachings of the Catholic Church. He was also known as the Angelic Doctor. Pope Benedict XVI said, "He is called Doctor Angelicus perhaps because of his virtues and, in particular, the sublimity of his thought and the purity of his life." Another reason to consider is that he wrote a theology about angels.
Thomas loved the Eucharist. Pope Urban IV asked Aquinas to write songs for the Solemnity of Corpus Christi He wrote Lauda Sion, Pange Lingua., Sacris Solemniis, and Verbum Supernam.
Everything St. Thomas Aquinas did was for the Blessed Trinity. He died at the age of 49. "Here am I Lord; I come to do your will."
