Gospel Lk 6:43-45
Jesus said to his disciples:
"A good tree does not bear rotten fruit,
nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit.
For every tree is known by its own fruit.
For people do not pick figs from thornbushes,
nor do they gather grapes from brambles.
A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good,
but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil;
for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks."
REFLECTION
Who was St. Peter Chrysologus?
He was a bishop and after his death was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church. He was also known as the "Doctor of Homilies." His homilies were collected because they taught many moral lessons. One of his moral sayings was, "The man who wants to play with the devil will not be able to rejoice with Christ."
St. Peter's homilies were short and to the point. He was called, "Peter of the Golden Words." His homilies were considered to be creative and held true to Catholic doctrine. He believed that learning was necessary for humanity to mature the gift of critical thinking and lead to better understanding of how to worship God
He would teach about the Incarnation of Jesus Christ and the Apostle's Creed and fought against the heresies during his time. St. Peter was a simple priest and his goal was prayerful and dedicated to converting souls to Christ.
A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good,
but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil;
for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks." St. Peter Chrysologus lived this Gospel message. Peter was filled with goodness and wished to teach others by his words.
Let us pray to St. Peter Chrysologus for all priests to be focused on saving souls and staying devoted to the teachings of Christ.
