MEMORIAL OF ST SCHOLASTICA SATURDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, FEBRUARY 10, 2024

Gospel

Mk 8:1-10

In those days when there again was a great crowd without anything to eat,

Jesus summoned the disciples and said,

“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd,

because they have been with me now for three days

and have nothing to eat.

If I send them away hungry to their homes,

they will collapse on the way,

and some of them have come a great distance.”

His disciples answered him, “Where can anyone get enough bread

to satisfy them here in this deserted place?”

Still he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”

They replied, “Seven.”

He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.

Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them,

and gave them to his disciples to distribute,

and they distributed them to the crowd.

They also had a few fish.

He said the blessing over them

and ordered them distributed also.

They ate and were satisfied.

They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets.

There were about four thousand people.

He dismissed the crowd and got into the boat with his disciples

and came to the region of Dalmanutha.

REFLECTION

“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd,

because they have been with me now for three days

and have nothing to eat.

It was not by chance that the people were without food after being with Him for three days. Imagine the patience of the crowd to put aside comfort to be with Him. This was a signal event. And Jesus knew each and everyone of them. Not a face in the crowd but individually.

Jesus, the Incarnate God, was about to manifest Himself even more at the multiplication of the loaves and fishes.

If we listen, watch and observe, the Holy Spirit will start acting. At times we might think God is too busy and question ourselves as to why would He think of me. I am a little sheep not aware I am in danger or not able to get out of trouble. I am of no importance, there are so many more prayerful and powerful players for anyone to notice me. Not true.

That is the manifestation. We know what God can do. Some of us have experienced His power through miracles, peace that only He can give. He may appear hidden from our lives but He is NEVER absent.

The poor and the inconsequential, the inadequate, the stubborn, the sick, the lazy...etc. are of import to Him. God reaches out to find us and the Holy Spirit will reveal Him.

Sshh....listen, watch, observe and be open to Him. Trust Him. Believe Him, and He will show you how to love like Him.

He is not hard to find, but it is we who don't see the light of the Holy Spirit. Pray and wait for that fire to ignite.

God Bless You
