They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah;
still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’”
Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter said in reply, "The Christ of God."
He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.
He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly
and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
REFLECTION
"But who do you say I am?"
"The Christ of God."
The ultimate gift we have is the Sacrament of the Eucharist. In the Eucharist, God Incarnate gives Himself as food for His creatures. He reaches our deepest depths. We find Him in the world of ours. He is the core of love and life, joining both heaven and earth. His created children return to Him in adoration.
Peter responded "The Christ of God". Through the eyes of faith, Peter discovered who Jesus really was. He was the first apostle to declare this.
As we know, the Son of God has overcome death, and reconciled and united earth to heaven.
At our Holy Eucharist Pilgrimage 2024, Seeking the Holy Host--Year of the Holy Eucharist, we saw the miracles of Lanciano and Orvieto. We are very blessed to have seen them and, therefore, grow in faith. It is our duty to spread this good news to all.
Daily we encounter Jesus in Mass but also in one another. At Mass through the priest, the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ through transubstantiation while still in the appearance of bread and wine.
St Vincent de Paul saw Jesus in the poor. He founded the Confraternities of Charity to feed and preach to the poor, the hungry, the sick. the destitute and anyone with spiritual needs. He also made it possible for them to receive the sacraments especially confession and the Holy Eucharist. As we see Jesus with love, we are to serve Him in others with joy.
