Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us, and do not subject us to the final test."
REFLECTION
"Lord, teach us to pray"
What does one do when the soul is wounded? Jesus taught us to pray the Our Father and our Mother Mary guides us with the Holy Rosary.
God created our bodies with an amazing ability to heal. When we are cut or injured, the body immediately responds. Blood flows to the wounded area, and all cells are put to work. Some cells clot, some fight infection, others rebuild the tissues. Eventually the wound closes and you are back to normal.
But what happens when a deep wound from years ago has its scab removed and the sin, rejection, disappointment, grief, harsh words, failures, regrets bring back, as fresh as can be, the same feelings as if it was brand new? 1 Peter 2:24 tells us, “By His wounds you have been healed.”
When the body is injured, blood goes to the wounded area. When our souls are wounded we bring these wounds to the Cross and allow the Precious Blood of Jesus to flow over the wounded places of our hearts and souls. Cleansing, forgiving, and setting us back on the road to Heaven. God provides us with all the graces needed for complete trust in God
Sometimes our tears are a sign of vulnerability but they can become a prayer when words are not enough. They are a drop of water falling upon a seed of grace that Our Lord with His Precious Blood and with His Holy Eucharist has planted within our soul. Our tears water the soil of the heart. They may be tears of sorrow, repentance, grief, forgiveness and even a longing for God softening the ground so that grace can take root and grow.
Our pain can grow into compassion, our sorrow into a deeper faith and trust, bitterness into forgiveness. Our goal is new saints on the path to our eternal reward.
Perhaps our open wounds can become healed scars with no more scabs that can allow misery in. Allow the Blood of Jesus to cleanse us, flow over the wounds of our souls to bring healing.
